Public registration is not possible. Access is restricted to the professional audience of Duisburger Filmwoche, customers of the Duisburg City Library and teachers as part of doxs! documentaries for children and youth.

All professionals and filmmakers of the Duisburger Filmwoche or doxs! will receive their personal login details as part of the accreditation process either by e-mail or will find it on their badge or in their welcome letter on site.

All Duisburg City Library customers can log in without prior registration using the login details from their library account. This is usually the library card number and a password. We do not receive any personal data, the registration is done externally via the library's servers.

As part of doxs! documentaries for children and youth, teachers can receive access for educational purposes. You can find more information here.

If you are an accredited professional or teacher, please contact us. We can provide you with your login details again, set a new password or create a new account.

As a customer of the Duisburg City Library, here you can manage your user account. If in doubt, please contact the library staff, as we do not have any access to your data.

The digital Foyer is a browser-based internet portal. This means that, regardless of the type of device you use, you need an Internet browser and can watch the films there directly.

The portal works smoothly with the following browsers and operating systems:

The player supports both Apple AirPlay and Google Chromecast. Most current televisions are equipped with one of the two functions. The respective icon for activation can be found at the bottom right of the player. Of course, it is also possible to connect your end device to the TV set using an HDMI cable.

Please note that screen synchronisation or screen mirroring are not supported for reasons of copy protection.

You can play a film as often as you like. You can find all the films you have already started watching under the Check list menu item.

Yes, this is possible to a limited extent. By adding films or entire programmes to the watch list, you can bookmark them and watch them later. You can find your watchlist under the menu item Check list and in your profile.

No, due licence restrictions it is not possible to download the movies.

Please log in with your personal access data. If the notice still appears, the film may be subject to time restrictions due to licensing regulations. Further information can be found in the programme overviews under ‘Notes on availability’ at the bottom of the page. If in doubt, please contact us.

Due to licence agreements, the films are only available in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The country in which you are located is determined by your IP address. This is assigned by your provider when you dial in. If you are in a public WLAN (e.g. in a hotel or train), it is possible that the country assignment may not work correctly. In this case, please contact us and we will find a solution together.

Publicly accessible films are generally subject to age ratings. If we do not have any information on the classification of films, we are forced to make them accessible only from the age of 18. If in doubt, please contact us.

We recommend an Internet broadband connection with at least 2 MBit/s data transfer rate for films in SD quality and 6 MBit/s data transfer rate for films in HD quality. In principle, the streams also work with a lower Internet speed. The player automatically adjusts the film quality if the Internet speed is insufficient.

The playback quality depends on your Internet connection and is set automatically. If your internet connection is weak or fluctuating, you can also fix the playback quality. Click on the cogwheel symbol in the bottom right-hand corner of the player. A small window will open in which you can set the video quality.

Please note that manually setting a high video quality may result in longer loading times or interruptions during playback.

If available, you can change the language and subtitles directly in the player. Click on the cogwheel symbol in the bottom right-hand corner of the player. A small window will open in which you can set the language and subtitles. The menu items are only displayed if additional languages or subtitles are available.

Please note that some subtitles are part of the picture (so-called embedded or hard subs) and cannot be deactivated.

The colour and size of the subtitles can be changed either directly in the player or in the system settings, depending on the end device or browser. 

On Android and Windows (Firefox, Chrome etc.), click on the cogwheel icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the player. A small window will open in which the adjustments can be made in the subtitles area.

On iOS and macOS (Safari only), you can customise the appearance of the subtitles in the system settings under Accessibility.
